Hello everybody, welcome to Podcast Italiano. This is Davide and this is an episode for beginners. I’m going to read to you a letter in Italian. I’m going to read it slow at first and then at normal speed. I’m also going to ask you some questions. If you want, you can answer the questions on the episode’s page at podcastialiano.com, where you will also find the whole transcription and translation into English. I’ll try to correct your mistakes. It can be a helpful writing exercise.  Buon ascolto!

Caro ascoltatore o ascoltatrice,
Dear listener (male) or listener (female)

In the previous letter I wrote you that I’m in Budapest. Do you know where Budapest is? Budapest is the capital of Hungary. It’s the biggest city in the country. Almost two million people live here. 10 million people live in Hungary.

Budapest is a very beautiful city, with an elegant architecture, lots of great views and many things to do. Did you know that Budapest was two cities in the past? Buda and Pest, with the river Danube in the middle. Now they are one city. I like living here a lot, I like the city itself and the life here.

Poter studiare e vivere all’estero è una bella opportunità.
As I’ve told you, I’ve studied here for one semester. Do you know what Erasmus is? Erasmus is a European student exchange program. If you are a student in a European university you can go study in another European university for a semester or two semesters. I am very happy this project exists. Being able to study and live abroad is a great opportunity.

Tu hai mai fatto scambi all’estero?
Unfortunately my semester year is almost over: in two weeks I’m going back to italy. But I’m happy to have had this experience. Have you ever been on a school exchange abroad? If so, where did you go? Answer my questions in the comments under the episode at podcastitaliano.com

Davide

This is it for today, thank you for listening. I recommend you come back to this episode and listen to it many times. That way you’ll memorize the structures and the vocabulary much faster. I also have a small request. If you can, go to the page of Podcast Italiano on Apple Podcasts and leave a review. That will hopefully help other people find the podcast.
Grazie di cuore! A presto! Ciao.
