Want to master congiuntivo once and for all?
Introducing Il congiuntivo in 30 giorni: la sfida!

Has this happened to you too?
- Do you find explanations on the subjunctive frustrating and unclear?
- When you speak, do you never know when to use the subjunctive and when to use the indicative?
- Do you feel less proficient in Italian because you don't know the subjunctive?
SYou're in good company...

The subjunctive is everywhere!
The subjunctive is a central aspect of Italian grammar.
And take note: it's not only found in advanced and sophisticated sentences! It also appears in very common everyday phrases.
Yet, students start to worry about it when they reach an intermediate or advanced level.
That makes sense.
At the beginning, other things are the priority:
- developing comprehension
- developing good pronunciation
- managing to make oneself understood
But at a certain point, it becomes impossible to ignore. Because the subjunctive isn't just something for "advanced students."
The subjunctive is a fundamental trait of standard Italian.
.png)
Why the congiuntivo matters
You see, the subjunctive is essential for expressing oneself in an elegant, precise, and accurate manner.
If you want to speak well in Italian at an intermediate-advanced level, you need to know how to use the subjunctive.
Of course, you can also choose not to use it. In many cases, Italians will still understand you.
But that would be a bit like deciding to completely ignore pronunciation
It's primarily a matter of the impression you want to make.
Using the subjunctive will allow you to impress Italians and make a good impression.
But then, is the subjunctive just a matter of elegance? Does it not have a function? A meaning? It's not a very simple topic. Let's see...
There's a myth about the subjunctive.
I'm sure you've also heard explanations like this: "the subjunctive is used to convey doubt, uncertainty, possibility, subjectivity, not reality..."
What if I told you that's not always true?
Look at these sentences:
- Nonostante piovesse, siamo andati al cinema".
- Sono contento che mio fratello sia venuto a trovarmi"
- È strano che le cose siano andate così.
All these are real facts, aren't they? So why is the subjunctive used? For a simple reason: "nonostante", "sono contento" and "è strano" require it. You see...
The subjunctive often has no meaning!
Whaaaaaaat?
Yes, that's right. I know, it's not what other students and grammar books tell you.
But it's true. The subjunctive doesn't always have a "meaning". It doesn't always express doubt, uncertainty, or unreality... Often, in fact, it's just form, a mechanism of grammar.
So what then?
We need to distinguish two cases:- when the subjunctive has a meaning
- when the subjunctive is "just form"

You can sit back, listen, and feel as if you're traveling through Italy in the 1960s. The included resources—such as transcriptions with vocabulary, grammar notes, and even exercises and comprehension questions—transform an entertaining story into a true series of lessons that is sure to take your Italian to the next level! The course level is very high
The course level is very high, both from a grammatical and lexical point of view, but the content is also very interesting. I'm impressed by how you and Marco tackle such delicate subjects like the church, politics, or even a polarizing figure like Berlusconi. It's clear that you have put a lot of effort into this. I learn as much about Italy as I do about Italian. 😊

This is the most useful language course I have ever taken.
This is the most useful language course I have ever taken. Both Davide and Marco are masters in their respective fields, but together they are dynamite. The lessons are informative and stimulating. They discuss not only Italian historical events but also their impact today. The various parts of each lesson are challenging but worth it. Davide has structured a superb course that covers essentially all the areas you need if you want to move to a higher level: vocabulary, writing skills, grammar, comprehension. This is a rare opportunity to study with two deeply committed teachers.

I learned Italian with your courses
This is a truly excellent course, and I recommend it to everyone who intends to improve their pronunciation and learn the correct intonation of sentences. Only in this way is it possible to reduce one's native accent, enhancing the typical melody of the Italian language which, in my opinion, is the most harmonious in the world. The course is well structured with comprehensive explanations on how to produce sounds to achieve the correct pronunciation. In short, I was eagerly awaiting this course and its quality has exceeded my expectations. Thank you, Davide, your valuable courses and content have made me fall in love with the Italian language.
